LINDA ANNA CLARKE
Born May 6, 1947, Linda was born, raised, and lived in Winnipeg her entire life. Linda, an only child, grew up with a doting dad and his siblings. Linda’s close connection with her father and her Auntie Ruby and Uncle Leo cemented her love and appreciation for family.
In 1967, Linda met the love of her life, John Clarke. They were married in 1968 and started their own family in 1972 with the birth of twins. Six years later, they welcomed their third child, completing their family.
Linda stayed home to raise her children for many years and was a devoted parent volunteer at Isaac Brock School. With the encouragement of the school’s principal at that time, Linda embarked on a career as an educational assistant. After substituting at several schools in Winnipeg School Division, mom landed a permanent position at Sargent Park School and stayed for 25 years, until her retirement. Beyond the enjoyment of her role in supporting students, mom met some of the most wonderful people who brought her much fulfilment and happiness. Among them, Mom met her best friend - a kindred spirit - whom she waited a lifetime to meet - Marianne Schmidt. They navigated hectic days in the classroom but always found time to connect. Even after retirement, Marianne and mom continued to meet regularly for “tea” to catch up, walk life together, and support each other through life’s ups and downs. They never missed a birthday and always took the time to share how much they meant to each other.
Linda is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John. She is also survived by her children, Nancy (Scott), Darcy (Rebecca), Chris (and family) and grandchildren Emily, Carter, Bella, and Julia.
Mom’s love and involvement with her grandchildren was unparalleled. Her commitment helped our family units to thrive. From late-night rescue missions to help with a sick grandchild, last-minute childcare, to attending sports events and school concerts, Grandma was unfailingly present and always cheering on each of her grandchildren! Linda was very invested in their education. She volunteered in their elementary classrooms and kept close tabs on the grandkids’ latest friend-groups, academic achievements, and extra-curricular pursuits.
After 52 years in their home on Spruce Street, Mom and Dad moved to apartment living to simplify and relax. Instead, they discovered an active and vibrant community, and many meaningful new friendships. Mom embraced coffee gatherings, birthday celebrations, dinner nights, bake sales, holiday sing-alongs, gardening, community outings, and more. The friendships she made at Riverbend brought her great joy and enriched this chapter of her life.
Mom, you will be forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered. Your love lives on in the family you nurtured and the countless lives you touched throughout your beautiful life.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of one’s choice are welcome.
